COMMISSION — ‘Vendetta’.

“Vendetta is a reckless, ambivalent individual with a passion for violence- exclusively for authority. Someone who's suffered gravely against discrimination for their former identity, their transformation and growth into who they are now has been a bloody, destructive but positive one as they turn their ire towards the powers that be into a force of good for the oppressed. One might say that they're nothing but a trigger-happy lunatic with a fetish, but a deeper understanding of who they are reveals someone with very strong thoughts on control, power, rights and freedom- something that can't be gained by playing to the rules set on the masses and making nice with the people trying to kill you.” - Description of ‘Vendetta’, by the client.

I worked a lot of punk and alternative imagery into Vendetta’s design. The ladder laces, the spiked combat boots, and the badges on their jacket relevant to the LGBT rights and anti-fascism movements. The client gave me a few images on elements in the design that they wanted- things like their cap, the body armour, and the long coat. A visual description was given to me of what they were looking for, and I used both the description and the images provided to come up with the final design. The description of Vendetta’s personality helped me come up with the posing and expression for the commission. A character who is as bold and destructive as Vendetta needed a depiction that would outwardly reflect who they are, which is why I opted for the maniacal grin, the casual yet confident posture, and the way they lounge on the chair.
