COMMISSION — ‘Finn Oldgrey’.

“Their figure is obscured by a distinctive long cloak that reaches down past their knees. It wraps around their whole body like dense bat wings, a heavy dark green riding cloak. It's clearly been maintained long after it should have been retired - cuts and tears have been stitched back together with thick string, patches of mismatched waxed leather sewn other parts, the bottom edges of it worn and frayed, and the whole thing is slumped over the frame of its bearer. A single hand reaches out to grasp on a gnarled old wooden staff, twisted and warped in unnatural ways. You see the nails of this individual are somewhat unhuman - looking closer to claws or talons. A mess of long, greying white hair has grown out and hangs down over their body like a willow tree’s boughs, easily reaching down in parts to this person's waist. Part of it is styled to cover part of their face, along with a scarf that obscures their mouth and nose. Easily seen even through the curtain of hair is the bold yellow eyes that almost glint unnaturally. Were they not to hide their features, they’d appear as a perfectly fine looking individual. Fair skin that looks like it's starved of the touch of sunlight for far too long, a strong jaw with a distinct chin, a hawkish nose. Dark rings around this person’s eyes suggest that they struggle with sleep, their brow seems like it's permanently furrowed in thought. They stand with their shoulders slumped and hold their staff over their form defensively.” - Description of ‘Finn’, by the client.

Oldgrey was a commission done for a long-time friend and Dungeons and Dragons’ player of mine. He’s always been a favourite client of mine as he gives detailed descriptions of what he’s looking for in his commissions. As well as the detailed descriptions, he also gives me creative license on additions that I feel would fit the character. That being said, the brief I was given was perfectly thorough, and it was satisfying to translate how my client saw his character into a piece of art that accurately reflected their imagined design.
