COMMISSION — ‘MAD IN ENGLAND’ for Chris Catalyst

Chris Catalyst reached out to me after I had designed some freebie stickers for his David Bowie cover album. He had a few key themes he wanted within the design, but largely he wanted to give me creative freedom. He wanted a crest with two dogs either side, with the album name in an arch over the top, and a sunflower, a pint, a banana and a slice of pizza inside the shield.
The rest of the clutter in the design was thought up by me. It includes Yorkshire roses, a nod to where Chris is from, lightbulbs as a nod to his other band, Eureka Machines, as well as assorted ‘British’ paraphernalia. The cat at the top is Chris Catalyst’s cat, Rosie, who often features in a lot of his work and album covers.
The design was finished in red white and blue for sticker designs, which I printed and cut myself, and in a soft sepia brown which was printed on the shirts. The slightly ‘off-white’ finish was subtle yet worked well with the overall cohesion of the piece.
