COMMISSION — ‘Emorette’.

“A vampire inspired by Matt Berry.” - Description of ‘Emorette’, by the client.

From what I was told about Emorette, he seemed incredibly kind hearted for a vampire. Another Dungeons and Dragons commission, I knew I wanted to include his class (Wizard) within the piece, as magic seemed so tightly knit in his backstory. The client gave me a few reference images to work from, including a piece of their own work, and told me to have fun with the piece— and I did.

Including Emorette’s spellmanship in the piece gave me the opportunity to try dynamic lighting like I hadn’t in pieces before. I had to deepen my shadows, think about where light would bounce off of. In the end, I lit a candle and held it up to my face in the mirror to give me a good idea of how the shadows would fall. The client absolutely loved the piece, and so do I, with it being my favourite use of lighting I’ve done to date.
