CHARACTER DESIGN— ‘Callum Prescott and Adelaide Fogg-Prescott’
“Brash and boisterous.” - Description of ‘Callum’, by his creator.
Callum and Ada were created with the idea they would be foils of each other, yet still blend seamlessly together. Callum is brash, stoic and standoffish, whereas Adelaide is delicate, mild-mannered and borderline cowardly.
From their original source material, Callum is a criminal who often sees people as means to an end, and Ada is an overworked perfectionist who is grasping at any semblance of meaning in a lifetime of medical servitude to others. Both in their mid-thirties, Ada’s intense job and poor work-life balance is shown through her eyebags and early grey hairs. She is a doctor because her father is, and that is what is expected of her. In most of her designs, she is depicted in scrubs and work clothes, as that’s how she spends most of her time. Callum, on the other hand, dresses practically for his ‘job’ with heavy boots and a large patched overcoat which gives an insight into the sort of music he likes. The jacket is blood splattered, and his knuckles are injured. It’s not clear whether the blood is new, and he hasn’t cleaned it yet, or if it’s old and he hasn’t bothered because he sees getting it stained red inevitable. His hair and beard are slightly dishevelled, as he doesn’t see the point of taking care of himself— which is the opposite of Ada, who even though she is exhausted, maintains a meticulously kempt appearance.
